Summary: A Society for International Development: Prospectus 1984 is a collection of studies that examines the current problems of world development in light of the past twenty-five years but goes beyond an examination of that experience to project practical and workable plans for the future. In this book the authors ask the question "what is development?" and they invite the people of the world to respond. Is development economic growth, or is it the creation of a new basis for preserving cultural identity? Who should determine developmental policies? On whom should we rely to see these policies through? Combining broad questions with specific case studies, the authors suggest that a new world order is both attainable and desirable.
