N2  - The academic career of Herman Bierens spans 32 years, the latter half of which he spent at the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). He has made several important contributions to various parts of the literature, including misspecification testing, semi-nonparametric estimation, unit roots, cointegration, and duration models. He has produced three monographs, including a rigorous first-year graduate textbook on probability and statistics, a software package, has served as the primary thesis adviser of nine Ph.D. students, was an associate editor of Econometrica and the Journal of Econometrics (JoE), served on two other editorial boards, is a fellow of both the Econometric Society and the JoE, and is a recipient of the Econometric Theory (ET) Plura Scripsit award and the JoE associate editor award
