The intention is to describe and discuss differences and similarities between trade unionism in these three parts of the world focusing on some selected countries. The conclusion in this article is that it is possible - on a very abstract and generalizing level - to identify some differences in the social and institutional basis of trade unions in Europe, Asia and the USA.
