Summary: The fourth edition of Surgical Pathology of the GI Tract, Liver, Biliary Tract, and Pancreas represents the most clinically relevant and comprehensive textbook of gastrointestinal (and related organs) pathology worldwide. We believe this edition is a significant improvement over the third in a number of ways, as it focuses on the methods and algorithms that pathologists can use to approach and solve difficult differential diagnoses readily. The fourth edition contains one new chapter (Algorithmic Approach to Diagnosis of Pancreatic Disorders). All other chapters have been significantly expanded to include the most recent immunohistochemical and molecular data and a basic approach to diagnostic pathology. For instance, this edition includes many new and updated differential diagnosis tables and summary boxes that pathologists can use at the microscope. We have also separated and significantly expanded the discussion of molecular features of tumors, much of which has only been elucidated in the past 5 years. This book truly merges science and pathology at a practical level. The chapters on algorithmic approach to interpretation of tubal gut, pancreatic, and liver biopsies provide diagnostic algorithms that enable pathologists to navigate the often complex and overlapping inflammatory disorders in a thoughtful and precise manner
